Freshwater is the main village of this Western Isle of Wight parish which runs into Colwell and Colwell Bay to the north and northwest also to Afton and Freshwater Bay to the south. Separate large hamlets of Norton and Norton Green are to the north. 3 striking napoleonic forts lie in the north in their own country parks: Fort Victoria Country Park has two and Golden Hill Country Park has the other. At Freshwater Bay is a fourth fort, Fort Redoubt and the Tennyson path leading past his home. Physicist Robert Hooke was born here.
