Unincorporated community based around an old mill village. Lent its name to the Conestee Mill in the area, the operations of which are responsible for the heavily polluted Lake Conestee. Before the Revolution, Cherokee used the area as a camping site and named it with a Cherokee word meaning either "running water" or "dogwood." The Conestee Mill was built here as the Reedy River Mill by Vardy McBee in the 1840's.
