Town with a population of 3,504 at the 2000 census. Origin of its name is unclear, perhaps deriving either from its position on a road called "Honey Path" or from a Cherokee name for a nearby trail. Chartered by the General Assembly in 1855 as "Honey Path" but was always known as Honea Path. Its name was officially changed in 1955 to reflect the common usage.
