  • Rajneeshpuram was the city commune built by the followers of the mystic Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh later known as Osho. The city was in existence from 1981 until 1985 when the commune collapsed due to internal and external pressures. Much state and local opposition centered on the issue of separation of church and state since it was a commune of founded on the religion called sannyas or Rajneeshism. It is therefore ironic that it is now a Christian community a much more acceptable religion to those who opposed the city on this religion pretext.
