Once a seeding plantation for roadside trees of Tokyo, in 1961 established as a botanical gardens by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
It contains over 4,500 varieties of plants constituting 28 blocks such as Azalea Garden, Rose Garden, Plum Garden, Bamboo Grove, Magnolia Garden, and etc. A large greenhouse for tropical and subtropical plants was constructed in 1984.
