Proctor Valley

The valley is named for 19th-century English astronomer Richard Proctor, whose widow arrived in the area in 1887. She planned to build an observatory on nearby Mount San Miguel as a memorial to Professor Proctor. The observatory was never built, but the valley was named for the stargazer.
