Halla Mountain is most often referred to as Hallasan (한라산). This is South Korea's highest mountain. It also happens to be a massive extinct volcano with 368 secondary volcanoes (오름) scattered all over the island. The summit of Hallasan stands 1,950 meters above sea level and has been closed off from the public for many years to avoid unnecessary erosion. There are four main climbing trails for exploring Halla Mountain. It’s best to check with the local tourist information center to see which trail is open when visiting.
