This museum holds a large collection of Edvard Munch's famous paintings, including his most famous works: "The Scream" and "Madonna". These two paintings were dramatically stolen from the museum by armed robbers on August 22nd, 2004. The paintings were recovered two years later, but were somewhat damaged, and are currently (November 2007) being restored.
