At the height of production in the 1960s, this plant (formerly Western Electric's Indianapolis Works) manufactured millions of residential telephones annually and employed as many as 9,100 workers. The plant began a two-year closure in 1984, laying off the remaining 3,800 employees by 1986.

Today, the property is known as Western Select, housing government offices and a number of a private firms.
