A selective Grammar school for boys between the ages of 11-18. Founded in 1893 the school moved to its present purpose built site in 1966. In 1995 a new Sixth Form block was added. The school rapidly established a reputation for specialising in Science and Technology, famous for schooling author Terry Pratchett in the '60s. It is named after politician and English Civil War participant John Hampden. The school obtained an Academy status in 2011.
