This Buland Darwazah or "Gigantic Gateway" is the southern gate of the walled city of Fatehpur Sikri. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1572, after his victory of Gujarat. This gate faces the direction towards Gujarat state.

Fatehpur Sikri got its name after Babur defeated Rana Sanga at Sikri (Fateh means victory, pur means place). Fatehpur Sikri fort has the largest entrance in the world called Buland Darwaza. It has a beautiful Jodha Bai Palace beside it. Jodha Bai was Hindu princess from Rajasthan and was one of the three queens of Akbar the great.
