A Census Designated Place in Merced County, California. Population of 406 as per 2010 census.
Very small city. Unfortunately, I could not find a web page describing this city. I drove through it many times, but there is nothing significant enough to remember about it. It does have a gas station with a large sign that reads, "We dont know where mom is but Pop's in the cooler"' a play of what northerners refer to as soda...pop is not a common reference in this part of the country. • My father took a load to ballico when he was a trucker.
  • A "city" it is not. A hamlet, perhaps. The reference to "pop" is a temporal phenomenon and not a spatial (geographic) one: in the 20's and 30's sodas that came in bottles were soda pops.
