Constructed by Ramesses III (c. 1184-1153 BC) on the site of an earlier temple, and decorated under Ramesses XI and Herihor in the early 11th century BC. The temple was modified by later kings, especially Nektanebo II and the Ptolemies.
Khonsu is an ancient lunar deity, depicted as a falcon wearing a moon-disk on his head.
