A private island in New Meadows River. The island has an interesting and sad history. During the Civil War it was settled as a multiracial community, which lasted for over 50 years until their eviction by the State of Maine in 1912. The history is describe in more detail by Curtis Rindlaub in his book A Cruising Guide to the Maine Coast.
