About the Publisher
Za Rulyom Joint Stock Company is the biggest publisher in Russia producing automotive periodicals and books. At present the publishing list of the company comprises "Za Rulyom magazine", the oldest automotive magazine in Russia, "The Moto" magazine, the first one in Russia dedicated to motocycles, "The Limousine" magazine and quite a new project - newspaper "Za Rulyom Regional".

During the last 10 years a number of book projects have been launched. These include reference and informational catalogues, technical, legal, educational and training literature and some unique encyclopedias. In 2000 Za Rulyom ussued a first book of the new illustrated manual on overhauling motor vehicles of "Do-it-yourself" series. On the whole about 80 titles of various books and magazines are being published now.

Za Rulyom holding comprises a few branches such as "Torgoviy Dom" (Trading Firm) with a net of commercial shops Za Rulyom (including regional ones), Tourist Bureau, Legal Advice Office and Insurance Department.

We have written about motor cars since 1928
No doubt Za Rulyom brand is first of all associated with the magazine of the same name. It is Za Rulyom magazine that was launched in 1928 and for over 50 years had been the only periodical publishing information on automotive matter. The print run of the magazine at the time of the Soviet Union was about 5 million copies. Today this title still remains the most published monthly periodical in Russia. The enormous bank of information accumulated in the course of years and the qualified and experienced personnel made it possible under new democratic conditions to carry on former projects and start new ones under the logo of Za Rulyom. In 1991 "The Moto" magazine was issued, being the first of its kind and the only one in Russia until quite recently. In 1992 on the basis of Za Rulyom Editorial board a Publishing House was formed which in addition to magazines commenced publishing technical literature. Since that time over 80 titles of books, calendars, posters were produced with an overall of 10 million copies printed. These include 4 annual catalogues dedicated to different branches of automobile production.
In 1996 "The Limousine" magazine was added to the collection of Za Rulyom titles. This high quality magazine was meant for men striving for perfection in everything. In 1997 under the aegis of Za Rulyom a new independent project "Poleznye Stranitsy" (Handy Pages) was launched which is now producing a number of reference books such as "Handy Pages", "H.P.- Health", "H.P.-All that is needed for the motor car", "H.P.- All that is needed for decoration, repair and construction".

The confidence of millions of readers in the logo of Za Rulyom is both the prestige and high responsibility. Technical literature produced by the Company offers a high level of quality and reliability of information. More than ever these titles meet the needs and demands of Russian readers and car owners. That`s why the publications in our magazines often touch upon the issues related to consumers rights and civil law, many books are oriented to independent or self-overhauling of motor vehicles. At the same time the biggest automotive publisher Za Rulyom is aware of the fact that it necessary to publish original books on the history of automobile production as well as some fundamental encyclopedic titles on automotive subjects.
So, now Russian readers can buy our first encyclopedias such as "The Encyclopedia of Cars", "The Encyclopedia of Classic Cars", "The Encyclopedia of Outstanding Vehicle Designers", "The Encyclopedia of Trucks", "The Encyclopedia of Classic Cars". Soon "The Encyclopedia of Motorcycles" is to be added to this list. Other encyclopedias are next in turn. As compared with foreign analogues our encyclopedias do not evade home made cars, with much respect and honour interpret the history of development of the Russian school of automobile designing and production and introduce outstanding personalities of our country in this field.

It is very important for the automotive publisher to keep pace with the up-to-date development and new technologies in car manufacture. Za Rulyom is now focussing the attention on the issue of multi media products and internet projects.

2001 - commencing issue of "Za Rulyom - Regional" newspaper
