  • RE-OPENING AFTER THE WAR IN 1945 ......IBRAHIM SCHOOL,SUNGAI PETANI -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr.Syed Jan re-opened the school on October 10,1945,with 26 pupils and 2 teachers. The building was then under requisition and the boys were housed in the old Chinese Protectorate . Work was resumed under great difficulties--lack of furniture , lack of books , lack of teaching appratus----but the enrolment rose steadily and at the end of the year (1945) there were 121 boys and 5 teachers with classes up to standard V . In January 1946 53 boys were admitted , raising the total to 174. The enrolment then increased to 205 ( of whom 40 pay no fees----they were free scholars) , teachers numbered 7 , and the highest class was standard VIII . The average daily attendance had been 182.85 with a percentage of 93.68 . The school was sorely understaffed . The waiting list of 50 were expecting to attend school , and 3 more teachers were needed . So the school could cope competently with the work that lies ahead
  • WE WERE MASTERS IN CRICKET & HOCKEY 1956 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 1956 we were great in hockey and cricket. We outstand as masters in North Malaya . Actually we were breeded by the Augustin family in both games.JF Augustin who was formerly HM,when retired very often in the evenings came to practice with the school team.We were treated with sweets and drinks. His sons namely Patrick,John,Stanley,Cecil,Edgar,etc.,etc.,etc. were formerly school players in both games. They had a family cricket team THE AUGUSTIN XI, with Mrs.Augustin as the scoress . 1956 was our year in hockey and cricket. CRICKET ------- We were successful in cricket,we won the Kedah Cricket Association Cup as well as the D'Arcy-Irvine Challenge Cup presented for competition between schools in Kedah and Penang. We feel very proud that a few members of the State Cricket XI were our school players. HOCKEY ------ We fielded a good hockey team. We beat all the school teams in Kedah, and were quite successful when we went on tour , during which we played a few matches. We won 4 ,drew 2 and lost only one game to the Perak Chinese Recreation Club in Ipoh. The teams performance was great , we did not lose a single game to the local teams. We beat Badlishah School ,Sultan Abdul Hamid college, Anglo Chinese School , Clifford School Kuala Kangsar , King George V Taiping and many more.We were unable to cross to meet Penang Free and found it in convenient to give us a game. The hockey tour to Perak as mentioned was successful .All schools contacted were willing to give their hostels as our station , thus we could save much from our fund. Later school hockey captain played for Malayan XI in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne,Australia. He was no other ; M. Doraisamy.

Before that he was a senior teacher at Victoria Institution , Kuala Lumpur . Retired in 1946 at Ibrahim School . Mr.J.F.Augustin took over the position . Formerly Mr.Augustin was Headmaster of Sultan Abdul Hamid College , Alor Setar.
  • All my siblings studied in this secondary school, of whom three of us (boys) were from the neigbouring IBRAHIM PRIMARY SCHOOL. My sister was from the adjacent CONVENT school and she joined IBRAHIM SECONDARY, after her LCE (now called PMR) As for myself, I joined in 1966 and left in 1972, after completing my Form Six. The Headmasters during my years were Mr.K.K.KOSHY nad Mr. RAJAGOPAL When I was studying there, the school hostel Muslim residents marched down to the town mosque every Friday for prayers. They looked smart and were well discplined..I wonder if this fine tradition is still being practised! I remembered that in 1969, the school celebrated its 50 years anniversary; the hightlight being a 3 day Fun fair...it was enjoyable and memorable. I hope that in 2019, the school will celebrate its 100th year in style and I WANT TO BE THERE!!
  • The new Sungai Petani's MP, Johari Abdul is our new important people from Ibrahim School.
  • I lived in Sungai Patani from 1963-64 as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer.
  • I taught at Ibrahim Secondary School as a Math and Science teacher and lived with the Ismael bin Chain family. In 1965 as I returned to the USA I was hired to train new Peace Corps Malaysia volunteers at the Hilo, Hawaii, training center. In 1966 I began a MSc graduate degree in Oceanography at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Oahu. I have been there ever since. In 1998 I took part in the International Hash House Harriers 60th anniversary runs in Kuala Lumpur. There I met Mr. Chin Hoy Weng, a former colleague and English teacher when I worked in Sungai Patani. He had been one of the founders of the Sungai Patani Hash House Harriers, which had begun sometime after my departure in 1965. I visited SP briefly in order to make a live run with the SP HHH group. I'm hoping to regain contact with former students, teachers, or friends and plan to visit SP once again with my wife Sigrid Southworth. JHS I am
  • I am trying to find the name of an Indian lady teacher who was form teacher of form ivA in 1961, Ibrahim secondary school. Can somebody help me. Thank you.
  • I met Dato' Syed Ahmad Idid in Kota Kinabalu where he was Judge of their High Court. He later became the Director of the KLRCA (Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration). 2 years ago an ex-Old Boy of the SMI told me Dato' Syed Ahmad Idid was Director of SIRIM Berhad, Korn/Ferry International and THONEH or Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital. Did you meet Dato' Syed (and his brother Professor Dato' Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid in IIUM or Sungei Patani?
  • Old Boy/Guest. Dato' Syed Ahmad Idid was Director of SIRIM and THONEH (Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital) plus Chair at the US-based Korn/Ferry International which is an executive search global organisation. I believe Dato' Syed has a place in Sungei Patani. I read his exploits with the Bangsamoros of the Philippines and the Rohingyas of Myanmar (all recoded and published in the NST New Straits Times) and the Star. The Kedah archives and Alor Setar library do not have Dato' Syed's profiles which I tried to access from their website. On inquiry, the clerk there merely replied " Dato' Syed is not born in Kedah. So we do not hold his story". Can anyone confirm if Dato' Syed Ahmad Idid (and his brothers Prof Dato' Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid of IIUM and the late Dato' Haji Syed Sidi Idid (retired MCS) were born in Kedah? Keep up your work to try and capture as many old ISSP boys (and girls). I believe SP has grown into a large town and soon to be declared a city. Congratulations to Sungei Patani !!
  • Johnson Samuel (old boy 1956 batch) We were form five students in 1956. I believe we were, for the very first time, the group who produced very good results in the senior Cambridge examinations. Some of my classmates were Syed Ahmad, Noor Aman, Abd Gafoor Khan, Wan Yahya, C Navaratnam, and Doraisamy. I remember them all.
