St. John's Regional Medical Center was a focal point of devastation after an EF-5 tornado ripped through southern parts of Joplin on May 22, 2011. The medical center sustained severe damage after borderline EF-4/5 winds decimated the complex. Demolition of the center began on January 29, 2012.
