Once an arrangement of 10 LGM-30F Minuteman II Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Launch Facilities and a single Launch Control Facility, Lima was one of five missile flights manned by the 509th Missile Squadron, 351st Missile Wing. The 351st MW was activated on August 9, 1963 at Whiteman Air Force Base located near Knob Noster, Missouri and remained stationed there until its deactivation on July 31, 1995. Its inactivation coincided with the adoption of the START I treaty, which saw the destruction of Whiteman's launch facilities.
