Serpantinka GULag / SevVostLag

According to a sources this valley was the location of the feared and infamous Serpantinka camps. It is described by several as extremely overcrowded punishment camps. Mass executions are said to have run rampant here, as well as torture, disease, starvation and crime. Not to mention the severe temperatures of this inland valley said to reach below -70 celcius.

Nearby a small granite memorial has been erected. 22. Juni 1991.

Author Varlam Sjalamov was here for a short stop when he was being tranported south from another camp by NKVD.
