  • Paulding was once an important community on a stage coach line. It is the home of St. Michael's, the second-oldest Catholic parish in the Diocese of Jackson. Mississippi's primary newspaper was printed here for a while after the capital of Jackson was damaged during the Civil War. It was known as the "Queen City of the East". After the railroad bypassed Paulding to the east via Barnett, it declined in importance and is now a rural community. It is still one of two county seats for Jasper County, the other being Bay Springs. Other than St. Michael's and a courthouse (both replacements for the originals), nothing remains indicating Paulding was once more than it is now. God bless.
