This small village was abandoned during\in 1986, right after the Chernobyl Disaster, due to the radiation coming from the nearby Chernobyl N.P.P.


Stari Shepelychi was a former village in Ukraine, located within the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone (Ivankiv district, Kyiv Oblast).

Before the Chornobyl disaster, the village was administratively part of the Chornobyl district. It had a secondary school, a cultural club, and a library. The village had 2,400 hectares of agricultural land, including 1,300 hectares of arable land.

In 1986, due to severe radionuclide contamination, the residents of Stari Shepelychi were evacuated and resettled in other regions of Ukraine. Based on tear-off calendars found in abandoned houses, the civilian evacuation took place on May 3, 1986.
