  I saw Leslie Marmon Silko give a reading from her, then, newly published book "Gardens in the Dunes". She was quite captivating and very gracious when I met her after the reading to autograph my copy. Another notable author to make an appearance was Sherman Alexie who recently was awarded the National Book Award for Young Adult Literature. His novel "Indian Killer" is among my Top Five Favorite Books of All Time.
