Site of a Roman Fort and a quaint old bridge over Healam Beck that carried the old A1. Built in 1796 and Grade 1 listed, the bridge is now owned by Highways England but its future is uncertain. It is interesting to note that at this point you can see the track of the Roman Dere Street, the Great North Road and the new A1(M) 3 lane motorway - nearly 2000 years of history!
The first two photographs were take just prior to the opening of the Dishforth to Leeming section to the upgraded A1(M) motorway in March 2012. The last two are from Google Maps from the A1(M) and A6055 Leeming Lane respectively.
