castle, museum
Trani Castle was originally built by the Sicilian King and Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II between 1233 and 1249, during the height of the city's prosperity. Although the castle was thereafter upgraded, it retained its basic shape. It served as a prison from 1832 until 1974, and is currently a museum and performance space.
