Clingmans Peak

USA / North Carolina / Montreat /
 mountain  Add category

Part of the Black Mountain Range, Clingmans Peak rises to an elevation of 6,583 ft, the eighth-highest peak in North Carolina.

This mountain/peak should not be confused with Clingman's Dome, a slightly taller mountain 70 miles to the west also named for Thomas Clingman.

The actual summit area is mostly inaccessible because it is fenced and contains radio towers and equipment (WMIT), but a road does connect it to NC 128. The towers make it easy to spot from many miles away.
