The Boston flagship of Macy's was originally built as a Jordan Marsh Company department store, though the department store has no components older than 1949. The southwest corner was designated as the "New Store" when it opened, but subsequent redevelopment in the 1970s tore down Jordan Marsh's original store and Annex for a new, modern, rear component. Around 1995, the store was converted to a Macy's.
