The UP Cebu College is the oldest among UPV's colleges, established in 1918 as a satellite unit of UP Diliman. The campus occupies a 12-hectare site which was donated by the Cebu Provincial Government in 1929.
It is a recognized center of expertise in sustainable education by the United Nations and a Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education by CHED given in 2006.
During September 24, 2010, the UP Board of Reagents elevated the UPV Cebu College into a unit under the UP President and autonomous from its mother unit - the UP Visayas. This gave UP Cebu "more freedom and flexibility to prepare for a constituent university status in the next five (5) to seven (7) years."
In preparation for being a constituent university, the UP Cebu College have been granted a five hectare lot in the South Road Properties (SRP) by the Cebu City South District (then Mayor) Rep. Tomas Osmeña. The facility will be used to build the Professional Schools with graduate programs under UP Cebu as well as IT programs, production design and communication.
