The Three Great Storehouses (Portsmouth)

United Kingdom / England / Portsmouth
 museum, place with historical importance

These are 3 former naval storehouses in the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. They were built of brick but the interior structures are made from former ship structures. The oldest, Storehouse 11 to the north was built in 1763 and was previously known as Present Use Stores. The middle storehouse, Storehouse 10 was built in 1776. Stores were taken in from the eastern side facing the road and taken out on the western side facing the Camber dock, where they were loaded onto small boats for onward transmission to ships in harbour. It has a large clock tower which was a replica of the original that was destroyed by an air raid in WWII.

In 1782, Storehouse 9 was built to the south.

Today, all three are used by the National Museum of the Royal Navy--Storehouse 10 contains the 20th Century Navy gallery, Storehouse 11 houses The Sailing Navy & Nelson Gallery, while Storehouse 9 contains the Antiques Storehouse and Georgian Tearooms.
