Prehistoric Rock Cut Caves With A Chaitya Hall Located By Malcolm Ashley Noronha

India / Maharashtra / Dabhol /

THESE ARE ROCK CUT BUDDHIST CHAITYA CAVES OR MONASTERIES LOCATED ALONG A FRESH WATER STREAM. THIS PLACE IS IN ABSOLUTE WIDERNESS. THESE CAVES ARE CUT IN A ROCK CLIFF AT GROUND LEVEL. SOME CAVES HAVE, OVER THE YEARS BEEN TURNED INTO HINDU TEMPLES BY LOCAL ARTISTS BY SCULPTING HINDU DEITES LIKE GANESHA. NOTEWORTHY ARE THE INTRICATE WATER DRAINAGE CHANNELS WITHIN THE CAVES WHICH COLLECTIVELY LEAD TO THE STREAM. THIS IS TO AVOID SEEPING WATER FROM THE WALLS TO WET THE FLOOR. EXCELLENT CAMPING PLACE AS FRESH WATER ROUND THE CLOCK IN ABUNDANCE.
