High Springs is a city in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,863 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 18.5 square miles.
The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1840s. A discernible town began to develop in the early 1880s after a railroad was constructed and several phosphate mines were established. In 1888 the local post office changed its name from Orion to High Springs and the town was officially incorporated in 1892.
