Foundry derives its name from Henry Foxall, who owned a foundry on the banks of the Potomac that provided George Washington's troops with much of their weaponry during the Revolutionary War. Foxall's foundry was destined for destruction by British troops when they invaded the capital city during the War of 1812. But, legend has it, a sudden rain storm diverted the British to other pillage, & the foundry was spared. In gratitude, Foxall gave the funds to start a new Methodist church not far from the White House.
