This mall first opened in 1974 and was originally anchored by Sears, JCPenney, and Gimbels. Gimbels closed many stores in 1986, which became Stern's, but these stores were eventually closed in 1988. This one is now a Boscov's. There are many stores surrounding the mall, including a Kohl's (former Clover), AMC Theatres, and Acme.
After a sharp decline that started with the 2008 recession, Granite Run Mall closed its interior doors forever July 1, 2015. The property changed hands several times and is now owned by BET Investments, which is an arm of Toll Brothers. They are proposing to replace the mall with apartments and "lifestyle center" outdoor facing retail. The mall was to be used as the set for Mallrats 2, but this plan fell through due to a scheduling conflict regarding the mall's demolition.
The Granite Run Mall, as well as the former JCPenney anchor store, was demolished in 2016; only the Sears and Boscov's anchor stores remain. The property is currently under redevelopment as The Promenade at Granite Run.
