First started in the 1930s as a tuberculosis sanatarium to replace the one in Niantic in Crescent Beach, designed in the Tudor Revival style by Cass Gilbert. It was later used for MR patients starting in the 1960s. Closed in 1996. Still accessible by foot. Currently under development as a new state park.
