Apparently built and used by the military in the 1940's, it was turned over to the town in the '60's. "...the major user of the airport has been Winterport Dragway, which has been running races there since the late-1960s. It is also used by the Exiles motorcycle club, snowmobilers, all-terrain vehicle riders, hunters and fishermen, ultra-light and remote control aircraft hobbyists and hikers." (Bangor Daily News)
