The Studenica Monastery (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is one of the largest and richest Serb Orthodox monasteries. It was established in 1190 by Stefan Nemanja, founder of the medieval Serb state. The monastery is esteemed for its collection of 13th- and 14th century Byzantine-style fresco paintings.
