mountain, hill
Chanctonbury Ring is an iron age hillfort built on a high point on the South Downs, the South Downs Way run nearby. More recently the ring has come to mean the beech trees planted on the fort by Charles Goring in 1760. These trees became a Sussex landmark. In 1987 a storm The Great Storm Of 1987 blew down most of the original remaining beech trees. These trees have since been replanted. The views from Chanctonbury Ring can be spectacular on a clear day.
