It was the home of the five time world football champions, the San Francisco 49ers, and the ex-home of the National League San Francisco Giants. A national historical event occurred here in the 1989 world series when a major earthquake shook then "Candlestick Park" enough to postpone the World Series the Giants were playing against Oakland A's, from just across the bay.
