Home of the annual "Mid-State Fair", The California Mid-State Fair takes place in Paso Robles for 12 days at the end of July and beginning of August. The fair features well-known musical acts in a number of genres, including rap, country and rock. Other fair events include 4-H shows, cattle drives, contests, a petting zoo and the Miss California Mid-State Fair Pageant. A carnival and food vendors are also featured at this fair..

The fair was started just after World War II by George Stephan and Robert Kuehl.
