  • this is fuckin`tower wich is standing in a middle of nowhere.
  • One of the historic AT&T Long-Lines sites built in 1947 on Asnebumskit Hill in Paxton Massachusetts. This was one of 7 similar microwave relay buildings connecting New York City and Boston. Originally, this system carried network TV broadcasts and hudreds of simultaneous long-distance calls. In the 50's this system was expanded nationwide and allowed the first direct-dial long distance service to become a reality. All of the original 7 NYC/Boston Long Lines microwave relay sites are now decomissioned and several have been put up for sale by their current owner, American Tower Corporation. The one pictured here was purchased, along with 99 acres of land surrounding it, by the Teresian Carmelite monks of Worcester, MA to locate a monastery and educational center on the hill. Construction had not started as of November 2007 but plans are in the works to refurbish the old Long Lines building if possible. These concrete and cinder-block buildings are part of history and should (in my opinion) be conserved. The early use of microwaves to carry voice and TV service in the days before transistorized equipment was a "modern marvel" of its time. These rugged buildings would likely cost much more to demolish than they would to remodel into useful hilltop facilities for other radio service, astronomical observatories, or other used for which a high elevation in secluded areas would be desirable.
  • Yeah, no shit Sherlock, that is because it was a microwave tower...
