Former Red Pond. Known since 1423 as the Great pond. In 15-17 centuries the Krasnoe Selo (Red village) was located northeast of it, that`s why later it was called the Red Pond. First it was 23 sq. hectares. In early 19th century it was used for dumping waste, by the end of the century it decreased to 9 hectares. Filled up in 1910. The names of Krasnoprudnaya St. (Red Pond st.), as well as Krasnoprudnuj pereulok (Red Pond lane) and Krasnoprudnuy tupik (Red Pond blind alley) are based on its name. Earlier a cascade of ponds was stretching down Nizhnyaya Krasnosel`skaya ulitsa (Lower Red village st.) Everything is filled up. :-((
