Various explanations for this odd and humorous name have been offered; the late Dr. John C. Huden, who spent most of his life studying place-names derived from Indian words, said it may be a modified Delaware Indian word meaning "beaver kittens here."

  • The name comes from a corruption of it's Native American name. It has nothing to do with tickeling or nakedness
  • ...and what do you suppose those Natives did there?
  • and dont go in it. those cows on the hill, i hear. (turds anyone?)
  • Okay - but what was the word that was so corrupted?
