Located on the west coast in North Korea the close proximity to the shore exposed it to the volatile tides of the Yellow Sea. No information on UN Operations on this field during the Korean War has been found to this date. However, the North Koreans did work hard to repair this and three other airfields during April of 1953.

In the early 1970s the airfield increased from 1,829- by 91- meters to 2,402- by 108- meters of serviceable runway.
