This used to be a 100% local tin mining village. My wife and I stayed there on our very first visit to Cornwall 33 years ago, and there were still then some miners living there....and they were so friendly to us as out-siders. I suspect now it is all holiday homes. Geevor has shut down as a mine, although there is talk about some opening again in view of the massive increase in wholesale tin prices.

  • I have recently moved from Carnyorth because of work but I vcan confirm that it still has some ex miners living there as well as farmers and home owners. There are only about 6 holiday homes. The old school has become an outward bounds centre and the Gevor has wone more money to open up a larger museum. The Gevor coffee shop has some wonderful views to the coast. Aslo the three pubs to the north (in Trewellard and Pendeen) and the pub to the south (in Botallak) are all very good and very welcoming.
  • We stayed in this village on our very first visit to Cornwall in May 1977. We were taken to visit Geevor Mines (still working at the time) by one the villagers who was an ex-miner. Everybody was very friendly. I still remember the house we stayed where we have to go to the backyard to visit the 'loo'. But it was a nice cosy cottage where I have enjoyed our stay, and I have been back to Cornwall every year since.
