The Chikugo River Lift Bridge is a vertical lift railway bridge across the Chikugo River in Kyūshū, Japan. It was completed in 1935. The bridge has a total length of 507.2m, the moveable span is 24.2m long and vertical rise is 23m. [1] It links Ōkawa, Fukuoka with Morodomi, Saga, and previously was part of the Saga Railway Line. When that line became defunct in 1987 the bridge was closed to traffic; by citizens' request it was reopened for pedestrians in 1996.
The precision miniature model of the bridge, which describes the structure of bridge, was exhibited at Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (1937), and today, this model is on display in Railway Museum (Saitama).
It has been designated a Mechanical Engineering Heritage asset and an Important Cultural Property in 2007.
