Cascetti Quarry/United States Navy Deep Water Sonar Testing Facility

Currently now part of Springfield Township's Sandy Run Park. It was originally known as Cascetti Quarry, owned by Nicholas Cascetti. Mining operations ceased in 1958 after a snowstorm knocked power from the region and the quarry hole filled with water. The United States Navy most recently used the 14 - acre facility for underwater sonar testing.

  • Used to be a quarry. A flood due to a power failure filled it in in the 1950's.
  • The Oreland Rock Quarry parcel, consisting of 14.3 acres was deeded to the Springfield Township on February 3, 1999 and will be used as a nature center and trails.
