Fort Saint-André (Villeneuve-lès-Avignon)

France / Provence-Alpes-Cote-dAzur / Avignon / Villeneuve-lès-Avignon
 fortification, interesting place

Fort Saint-André goes back to 1291, when Philippe the Fair (then King of France) decided to fortify Mount Andaon. The fort offered excellent control of the Rhône river, which flowed right next to the mount before shifting course in about 1770.
