The Château de Rambouillet has origins in the 14th century. It was acquired in 1783 by Louis XVI of France and has passed, in due course, to the French Presidents, who have used it as an official summer residence since 1896. Famous diplomatic events have taken place here, such as the first "G6" summit (1975) and the Kosovo peace talks (1999).
