This was the the most significant junction on the public railway network in Jamaica. The line east led to Kingston, west to Montego Bay and North to Port Antonio.

Though passenger traffic ended in 1992, the lines north and west are still in use by freight trains hauling bauxite from Ewarton (wikimapia.org/#lat=18.172622&lon=-77.062376&z=16&l=0&m... ) to Port Esquivel (wikimapia.org/#lat=17.891275&lon=-77.131319&z=14&l=0&m... ).
