Krom, the kremlin of Pskov, is the city's architectural and cultural center. It's located on an elevated promontory at the conjunction of rivers Velikaya and Pskova. The territory of the Krom is 3 hectares. The first known settlement here appeared in the 500s AD. In X — XII, some earthen, wooden and, perhaps, stone fortifications and the first Trinity Cathedral existed here. In the Pskov Democracy (XIV — early XVI) the Krom with its cathedral, Veche (people's council) place and administrative buildings was the religious, administrative and legal center of the region.
