Thanks for the potted history of 'Big Foot' - very much appreciated. I remember as a boy, a cousin of mine came to live in Lagalevu and married one of the Connors or O'Connors. For all I know, I could have relatives living here at Big Foot. Thanks.

....what exactly is story behind Paddy Connor?...I heard somewhere he was the sole survivor of a shipwreck,....many, many years ago to be sure. The ship, travelling from the penal colony in Australia to Levuka, Fiji, ran aground perhaps on the Astrolabe Reefs with poor(or perhaps fortunate)Paddy ending up on the beach at Big Foot(Lagalevu) !!

He has been known as Paddy Connel, Patrick Connel, Paddy Connor, Padriag O'Connor and Patrick O'Connor, among other versions. He may have been quite a story teller and most of his stories cannot be confirmed as their is no complete record of all he has related to those that have bothered to record his words. I met a woman from far away Kiribati Islands who was in her 40's (this was about 3 years ago) who said that she too was a descendant of "Patick O'Connor of Kadavu". According to this woman "Paddy" fathered 98 children in all. Where in the world (or, better yet in the Pacific) these children were fathered, if at all true, is in and of itself another story to tell. Caroll Riley, a well known Australian geneologist (and descendant of Paddy and another historic figure: David Whippy) has numerous sources and citations on several items on the internet. "Paddy" is quite a good read for those who are interested. Good luck.
